# Coordinate Systems

This week, we learned about what makes up a coordinate system including:

• X-axis
• Y-axis
• X-coordinates
• Y-coordinates
• Planes
• Graphs

To better understand how to plot x- and y-coordinates on graphs, we played Coordinate Battleship!

### How to Play

The goal of this game is to destroy your partner’s ships before they destroy yours.

Each player has the same amount of ships which will include:

• Two ships that consist of 2 ordered pairs
• One ship that consists of 3 ordered pairs
• One ship that consists of 4 ordered pairs
• One ship that consists of 5 ordered pairs

Each person gets a piece of graph paper. One half will be your ships and the other half will be your guesses to sink your opponent’s ships.
Partners alternate guesses. To guess the ships, you’ll need to use ordered pairs, so an x-coordinates and an y-coordinate. When making a guess, write it down and allow your opponent to look at it if they need.
If you miss, use a dark color to fill in the coordinate. If you hit one of their ships, use a light color to fill in the coordinate. To keep track of when your opponent sinks your ship, you’ll want to mark the coordinates that they have hit.

If you're child wants to play more on the computer, introduce them to Math Playground where they can play here
